Irish Pub Burgers (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Cheese Sauce

01 - 3 Tbsp butter
02 - 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
03 - ½ cup pale ale
04 - 1½ cups milk
05 - 3 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
06 - 1 Tbsp hot sauce

→ Burgers

07 - 2 lb ground beef
08 - 6 pretzel rolls, split and toasted
09 - 2 tomatoes, thinly sliced

→ Side Dish

10 - 2 (16-oz) packages frozen onion rings

# Instructions:

01 - Melt butter in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add flour; cook, whisking constantly, 2 minutes. Gradually add ale and milk, whisking until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly, until mixture is thick and bubbly.
02 - Gradually whisk in cheese and hot sauce until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth.
03 - Shape beef into 6 patties; season lightly with salt and pepper. Cook patties in a large skillet over medium-high heat 5 minutes per side or until no longer pink in centers.
04 - Bake or fry onion rings according to package directions.
05 - Serve patties on toasted pretzel rolls with tomato slices, generous spoonfuls of cheese sauce, and onion rings.

# Notes:

01 - For a thicker cheese sauce, allow it to simmer longer while whisking occasionally.
02 - Pretzel rolls can be lightly buttered before toasting for extra flavor.
