Brown Butter Rice Krispies Treats (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Base ingredients

01 - Rice Krispies cereal, 5 ½ cups
02 - Large marshmallows, one 10-ounce bag
03 - Salted butter, cut into 8 pieces (1 stick, ½ cup)
04 - Pure vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon

→ Topping

05 - Flaked sea salt (optional, for sprinkling)

# Instructions:

01 - Heat your oven to 450°F and set up two foil-lined baking sheets. Spread Rice Krispies on one sheet and pop them in the oven for 3-5 minutes. Give them a stir every minute until they turn golden and smell toasty.
02 - On your second sheet (sprayed with cooking spray), lay out the marshmallows in one layer. Once the cereal's done and cooling, switch to broil. Toast those marshmallows for 30-60 seconds until golden on top - watch them like a hawk!
03 - In a large pot, melt your butter over medium heat. Keep stirring for 5-7 minutes until it turns golden brown and smells nutty. Lower the heat, add marshmallows, and stir until they're melted. Mix in vanilla.
04 - Add your toasted cereal to the pot. Over low heat, fold everything together until every piece of cereal is coated in that gorgeous marshmallow mixture.
05 - Press the mixture into a greased 8x8 or 9x9 pan (use a greased measuring cup to press it down evenly). Sprinkle with sea salt if you like. Let it cool completely before cutting into squares.

# Notes:

01 - If using mini marshmallows, they'll toast much faster than regular ones, so keep a close eye on them
02 - When browning butter, don't walk away - it can go from perfect to burnt in seconds
03 - Work quickly when pressing the mixture into the pan, as it sets fast
