Classic Patty Melt Sandwich (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Sandwich Base

01 - Sweet yellow onion, thinly sliced (1 whole)
02 - Unsalted butter, divided (2 tablespoons)
03 - Apple cider vinegar (1 tablespoon)

→ Patties

04 - Ground beef, 90/10 lean (8 ounces)
05 - Salt (¼ teaspoon)
06 - Black pepper (¼ teaspoon)

→ Assembly

07 - Sandwich bread (4 slices)
08 - Swiss cheese slices (4)
09 - Yellow mustard (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - Cook sliced onions in 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat for about 25 minutes until deep brown, stirring occasionally. Add vinegar in last 5 minutes of cooking.
02 - Form beef into two thin 4-ounce patties shaped to match bread size. Season with salt and pepper. Cook in same skillet 3 minutes per side over medium-high heat.
03 - Clean skillet and melt remaining butter. Coat one side of each bread slice with melted butter in the skillet.
04 - Build sandwiches in skillet with buttered bread (buttered side down), Swiss cheese, patty, caramelized onions, more cheese, and top bread (buttered side up).
05 - Cook sandwiches over medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes per side until bread is golden brown and cheese melts completely.
06 - Cut sandwiches diagonally and serve immediately while hot.
